| Sep. 23, 2008 | | | ThyssenKrupp Forging Group supplies solutions for modern technical surfaces | Less friction = less fuel consumption | | | The ThyssenKrupp Forging Group is one of the world’s leading suppliers of crankshafts and connecting rods. The cranktrain assembly is one particular area where the use of modern technical surfaces, developed specifically to transmit large forces in dynamically moving structural elements, can significantly reduce friction losses.
The crankshaft specialists at ThyssenKrupp Metalúrgica Campo Limpo in Brazil, ThyssenKrupp Crankshaft in the USA, and ThyssenKrupp Gerlach in Germany have made “Surface Technology Tribology” one of their key areas of development and expertise. They offer international auto manufacturers performance-optimized integrated solutions for the cranktrain. This includes both improving the performance of engines and reducing fuel consumption and emissions. The ThyssenKrupp Forging Group is looking among other things to nanotechnology to create innovative products. One example of the use of this technology in engine parts is in extremely thin coatings applied by means of PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) and DLC (Diamond Like Carbon). These coatings reduce friction between components and so improve performance, increase part life and enhance engine reliability. As a reduction in friction results in lower fuel consumption, this new technology makes an important contribution to reducing CO2 emissions. | | | ThyssenKrupp Technologies is an international manufacturer of high-tech plant and machinery. On the basis of world-leading market positions and innovative system and engineering capabilities, it supplies systems, facilities, specialized machinery and components together with associated services.
